Sport has become an economic, media and institutional sector in its own right, shaped by the professionalisation of its participants, the internationalisation of competitions and the diversification of revenue streams. This development has increased the legal issues relating to employment relationships, disciplinary matters, infrastructure, commercial rights and athletes’ image rights. In Luxembourg, the development of federations, clubs, events and esports has increased the need for tailored legal advice. Our Sport Law team advises federations, professional clubs, elite athletes, event organisers and organisations active in the esports sector.

Our team negotiates and drafts employment, insurance, transfer and sponsorship agreements, as well as agreements governing the commercial exploitation of image rights, and advises on the organisation of sporting events. We also assist clients with the application of the rules of national and international sports federations and the Luxembourg legal framework, including the Law of 3 August 2005 on sport. Where a dispute arises, we act from the pre-litigation stage and represent clients before disciplinary bodies, national courts and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Our team combines its knowledge of private law with an understanding of the rules governing sports organisations, federations and competitions. Its experience with the Luxembourg Commission for Arbitration in Sport enables it to assist local stakeholders in domestic sports arbitration proceedings, while taking into account urgency, competition schedules, the continuity of sporting events and the cross-border dimensions specific to the sector.
